If you are starting off in the housekeeping business, there are some basic rules that will have to be followed if you want to build a good reputation for yourself, your firm, or the hotel that you are employed by. A checklist helps in case you forget something. You can refer to your checklist every now and then while cleaning, to make sure you’ve covered everything.
Wipe from top to bottom with a microfiber or clean cloth dipped in a solution of mild dish detergent and lukewarm water. Squeeze out excess liquid and wipe along the grain to remove splattered grease and fingerprints.
Use a mix of baking soda and water and a non-abrasive sponge to scrub the sink. Rinse the sponge and sink with hot water. Wipe down the faucet.
Regardless of your floor type, start by sweeping or vacuuming loose dirt or food. Follow up with a mop and soapy water to make them shine. Always research the best cleaning methods for your type of floors before cleaning.
Use a bathroom cleaner to clean the tank, lid, and the inside and outside of the toilet bowl. Wipe down the seat, seat lid, and the exterior. Clean the inside of the bowl with a toilet brush.
Spray fixtures with all-purpose cleaner and use a wet cloth to scrub in between faucet handles and other tight places. Rinse with hot water, dry and buff with a clean, dry cloth.
Strip the bed and wash the linens, shams, bed skirt, and throws. Vacuum the mattress and flip it, then vacuum under the bed.
Grab an empty laundry basket and go from room-to-room picking up all the clutter and out-of-place items. If you’re really short on time, you can stash this basket somewhere your guests won’t see or start putting the items back where they belong.
Dust all the items in the living room with a dry cloth first. Now clean every item with a wet cloth, so that they regain the shine. Clean the ceiling fans and the switch board with cleaning agents. Vacuum the sofas, specially the nooks and corners. Wash the lampshades for brighter lights.
All the cleaning in the bathroom should be done with a disinfectant and with warm water. Wash the sink and disinfect it. Clean the cabinets and wipe the shelves clean. The shower and tub needs to be disinfected, washed and rinsed clean. Change the towels and put the earlier ones for a wash.
Dust all the surfaces and wipe them with a damp cloth. Clean all the lamps, chandeliers, sconces, picture frames, wall hangings, etc. Make sure that there are no cobwebs in the corners. The windows and blinds need to be dusted.
